Fashion Meets Function

June 30, 2007

Once again I am trying to make a purchase decision. I’ve been playing my Daisy Rock Acoustic-Electric Guitar (in blueberry burst) for several years now. Daisy Rock tailors guitars to a female audience by making the body and necks slightly thinner than your average guitar, to make playing more comfortable for our curvier figures. These eye-catchy products are not your little sister’s guitar either – blind testing shows they hold their own againstmore traditional models (okay, I made that up.) I am thinking it’s time to get an electric guitar of my own (so I can pretend to be Dream Theater like Jason!) While I had been planning on purchasing an electric Guild guitar next, after looking at the new Daisy Rock line, who would choose name recognition over all those candy-colored sparkles?

Pop-Rock Meets Footwear

June 28, 2007

Contrary to popular belief (okay, just my belief), Keds tennis shoes are still being produced and have quite a following. Even better, Indie-pop, poster artist Eleanor Grosch has teamed up with the pop-culture fashion must of the 80’s and designed several styles of footwear that are high on my shopping list this summer. Now I must decide between Owl and Panda prints (or both?)

News by Consensus

June 27, 2007

I know what you’re thinking… “Who does anything by consensus anymore Heather? This is America!” And in most cases I would agree with you, but Digg is full of idealism. You can impact what news is relevant by voting, or rather “digging” your favorite articles and dissing trash news. Make an account and add friends (like me, hteters); you’ll be able to check out the news they are digging that day. Today’s best story: The baby on Nirvana’s Nevermind Album is now 17!

Keep on Truckin’

June 15, 2007

After reading this story in the Gazette yesterday, I thought about yummy taco-truck-tacos all morning. Lack of breakfast and a grumbling tummy told me I had to have tacos right then, but I had several morning appointments and a busy afternoon ahead of me. After my morning appointments I decided nothing would get in the way of my taco experience, so I rushed down Union Boulevard, through construction and it’s just getting later and later. When I finally get to the taco truck there is a big line – everyone is wanting the tacos! While staring at the clock, I start to smell and then see these savory, authentic tacos on people’s plates. Smothered corn tortillas with some fresh cilantro and lime, garnished with a whole roasted jalapeno. Mmm, I’m starting to feel like one of Pavlov’s dogs. I wait a little longer and the line is not decreasing quickly enough; I decide those tacos will have to wait for another meal. Wish me luck today!

Recently Julian and I have been watching and trading in the stock market. We’ve made a couple risky trades (recommended at our young ages), but are moving along steadily. There are several sites that offer free “stock games” where you can play in the real stock market with fake money and see how your strategies pay off, quite literally. Julian started a game at The Virtual Stock Exchange, giving each challenger $1,000,000 and we have been competing for over two months now. At one point I had lost $100K, but that sparked more studying on my part and I am now happily sporting a 9+% return! More importantly, I can now confidently navigate the stock market. Booyah Skidaddy!

P.S. You can join our stock game by making an account on the site and entering the game “IB Trading.”

Shed No More!

June 12, 2007

Your pets, that is…

While I’m not usually a product-marketing junkie (okay, I can be), I can not stop telling people about The Furminator! I scored one for a bargain on ebay and Camus is close to being shed free.

How about you tailor them to your liking? At Wise Geek you can rate a sampling of movies and the results will then tell you which movie reviewers tend to agree with you most. After submitting ratings, I checked what my results thought of some movies I had seen recently and they were right on. I’m in line with Rotten Tomato’s cream of the crop.

Here is who the ratings meter thinks I should trust in movie reviewing: Rotten Tomatoes: 86%, James Bernadelli: 82%, Roger Ebert: 80%, Peter Travers 80%.

Personalized home pages were only the beginning of google’s web-reign. Now you can personalize gadgets by stocking them with a week’s worth of custom messages and then send them to friends. The googlegrams will update for your friend each day. Julian has brightened my mornings with sweet notes. My anxious self is trying not to log into his account and see what messages are stored for me throughout the rest of the week!

gazebo.jpg…Whether the weather will blow us away. Last week Julian and I extended our entertaining and relaxing areas by putting up a Gazebo with lights and furniture. Apparently we put it up just in time for the hurricane-type winds that swept through the city. Sylvia took pictures and emailed us the status of our Gazebo, so we were able to run home and save our outdoor seating. The wind magically moved our Gazebo around 4 feet. This weekend we were able to put everything back in order.

Big-Bad-Baby-Blanket

June 9, 2007

When my sister had her baby I planned to knit one of the b.b.b.b.’s seen in the first Stitch n’ Bitch knitting book. Unfortunately the yarn and needles were bought, baby-blanket.jpga row was knit and the whole project was then stuffed in the craft closet next to the well-intentioned scarf for a friend’s birthday, sweater for Julian and chew toys for Camus.

Another baby is joining the family and I’m once again determined to finish the project. With a matching hat! And booties! And a knitted onesie!

Okay…so maybe just the blanket for now. Today I’ve knit yet another row. Wish me luck!
