Rise and Shine

March 13, 2008

I don’t want to jinx my new routine, but I have been converted to a morning person. I certainly still have some hesitation with this and it is more based on necessity, but it seems to be working. I joined a new gym a few months ago. Attendance was off an on for awhile: some weeks I would get in a zone and go daily, but as soon as my school work became more demanding, my gym time went to zero and I was constantly exhausted. This week I decided to stop kidding myself – I knew I had to change up my schedule if I wanted to meet my gym goals, so I moved my workout time to the morning. Not an easy task since I work at 7 and have a 30-40 minute commute, but I have succeeded and am pleased to report that I really-really like this morning thing. Evenings are a mess of family time, housekeeping and homework, so getting my gym time out of the way early is refreshing. And I’m extra excited because even though I’m now getting up at about 4:40, I have had so much more energy and have felt less tired than normal. Over the last few weeks I have been going to bed earlier and earlier and have tried to take caffiene power naps in my car during the day at times, but now I feel fine through the whole day, I can stay up a little later and I don’t look really strange by trying to rest in my car in the middle of the afternoon. Hoo-ra!

Julian told me that if anyone would have bet him money ten years ago, swearing I would be getting out of bed on my own before 5 am, he would have to laugh at them. This is so true. I’m sure my mom will be in shock. In my youth, after several attempts to get me out of bed for school in the morning, my mom would start using techniques like spraying water in my face to get me to wake up, but this still didn’t work. She’ll be so proud!

super-mario-3.jpgSchool and work have broken me over the last few weeks, but I was given quite a treat this weekend: No homework (besides some very manageable reading). This is quite a treat! I’ve planned many things that include updating this very blog. Woo-hoo!

Although I haven’t been writing, I have been keeping up on pop-culture goodness! Check out Nintendo 8, where you can play all the old NES games in your browser. It really is as easy as clicking the link. No downloading programs or anything. Where was this site while I was working at my old appraisal job? I would have wasted away on this one. They even have Bubble Bobble, I mean COME ON! One small beef I have with the site is that the arrow keys and a/b buttons are reversed from normal remotes, so that takes some getting used to.
